原產於巴拿馬和哥斯大黎加林地中的小溪。
胎生鱂，母魚型體比公魚個體大，且常扁公魚，領域性強，公魚常躲隱蔽處，只有投餌時才衝出覓食，但即刻被扁，我拍到公魚清晰照片的唯一方式就是將母魚取出。本PO文為2公1母。
繁殖不易，原因在於生出來的小魚很易就被自己的雙親嗑掉，朋友告訴我這慘痛經驗，欲繁殖需要付出特別的關注力，若有小魚產生，要即刻隔離。

Livebearers, the female fish are larger in size compared to the male fish, and often bully the males. They have a strong territorial behavior, with males usually hiding in secluded spots and only darting out to feed when food is offered, but are immediately chased away. The only way I managed to capture a clear photo of the male fish was by removing the female fish. This post includes 2 males and 1 female.
Breeding is not easy, as the offsprings are easily eaten by their own parents. A friend shared with me this painful experience, emphasizing the need for special attention if breeding is desired. If any fries are produced, they should be isolated immediately.
